It always shocks me to see the average for U.S. domestic adoption. Our first adoption cost less than $20k, and it was private. I wonder who is paying so much money that the average gets skewed so high!

These are interesting statistics, indeed. On one hand, it seems wise to make the adoption process thorough to ensure the best possible placement for each child. On the other hand, making the process long and expensive does deter many families from adopting children. The question is, how many would-be fantastic parents are missing out on the opportunity to have a family?
